This was my first Olympic distance and was rescheduled from last year. Covid has meant a huge life change for me holding down two jobs and trying to squeeze in training!
I googled and found a 6 week intense training plan for time strapped triathletes which summed me up perfectly.
My lovely daughter Emily agreed to join me once again and we really couldn’t have done this race without the plan in place.
Race day was perfect with lovely calm and cool conditions. The lake was warm but very weedy which felt like a scene from Harry Potter! Some of the swimmers in front of me swam off in completely the wrong direction so sighting skills came in very handy!
The cycle route was lovely and every hill was pretty much followed by a down hill stretch mostly on main roads. We saw quite a few mechanical casualties along the way but our trusty bikes got us through.
The run was great until 2k when it turned to a muddy uphill farm track which we had to negotiate twice but we were absolutely delighted when we crossed the finish line together well under our target of three and a half hours.
